Emergency Foster Shelter

Whenever a child needs a safe place to go—even in the middle of the night—Grandma’s Place answers the call. Open 24/7, 365 days a year, we provide a warm sanctuary and unwavering support for children during their most difficult moments.

Who We Serve

Our Emergency Foster Shelter is the heart of what we do — a 24-hour, 365-days-a-year refuge for boys and girls from infancy through age 12 who have been removed from their homes by the Florida Department of Children and Families due to abuse, neglect, or abandonment. These children arrive frightened, disoriented, and often with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Our job, from the very first moment, is to make sure they feel safe, seen, and loved.

What Every Child Receives

A child’s stay at Grandma’s Place is intended to be temporary — a bridge to a safe, permanent placement. While they are with us, every child receives:

  • A safe refuge in a warm, home-like environment

  • Around-the-clock care from awake, attentive staff

  • Three well-balanced meals and two snacks daily

  • A medical evaluation within 72 hours of arrival, plus appropriate dental care and immunizations

  • Psychological assessment and counseling as indicated

  • Homework help and ongoing educational support

  • Recreational activities, field trips, and age-appropriate experiences

  • An individualized Service Plan developed in cooperation with the child’s DCF caseworker

Education is a Priority

School-aged children attend local public schools, and our staff works directly with teachers and administrators to ensure that each child’s learning continues without interruption. We provide daily homework support and project assistance, because we believe that keeping a child engaged in their education — even during the hardest moments of their life — is one of the most important things we can do for their future.

Why it Matters

Grandma’s Place serves children each year, providing comprehensive on-site therapies such as art and music therapy, Get Fit 4 Kids, yoga, and more. All of this is made possible through a carefully managed budget and the generous support of our donors and community partners.

If you’d like to make a difference in the lives of children in our Emergency Foster Shelter, please consider making a donation. Every gift—no matter the size—creates a direct and lasting impact.

We are here to provide a safe haven for foster children during their most difficult times. Your generosity makes it possible for us to continue offering not just shelter, but the stability, compassion, and care that every child deserves.
